چکیده

When colourimetrically characterising a high dynamic range display (HDR) built from an LCD panel and an LED backlight one is faced with several problems: the channels may not be constant; they may not be independent and there may be a significant radiant output at the black level. But crucially, colour transforms are underdetermined, which means that the number of colourimetric dimensions is smaller than the number of device channels. While the first three problems are associated with the LCD, the fourth problem stems from the additional channel in the HDR, the backlight. A 3700 flat-panel Brightside DR37-P HDR display was characterised. Using a spectroradiometer we recorded spectral radiance, chromaticities and luminance and estimated the true increase in gamut of the display due to the additional LED layer. We present a basic characterisation, propose a method for accurately presenting a desired luminance and chromaticity output despite the underdetermined problem and give an estimate of the available gamut. 2007 Elsevier Inc. A Window Manager for High Dynamic Range Display Systems

The dynamic luminance range of many real-world environments exceeds the capabilities of current display technology by several orders of magnitude. Recently, new display systems have demonstrated, which are capable of displaying images with a dynamic luminance range much more similar to that encountered in the real world. The paper summarizes how the human eye perceives high dynamic luminance ra...

High Dynamic Range Imaging

High dynamic range (HDR) images and video contain pixels, which can represent much greater range of colors and brightness levels than that offered by existing, standard dynamic range images. Such “better pixels” greatly improve the overall quality of visual content, making it appear much more realistic and appealing to the audience. HDR is one of the key technologies of the future imaging pipel...

Photometric image processing for high dynamic range displays

Many real-world scenes contain a dynamic range that exceeds conventional display technology by several orders of magnitude. Through the combination of several existing technologies, new high dynamic range displays, capable of reproducing a range of intensities much closer to that of real environments, have been constructed. These benefits come at the cost of more optically complex devices; invo...

A High-Dynamic Range Projection System

The dynamic range in many real-world environments surpasses the capabilities of traditional display technologies by several orders of magnitude. Recently, a novel display capable of displaying images with a dynamic range much closer to real world situations has been demonstrated. This was achieved through a spatially modulated backlight behind an LCD panel. Combined with the modulating power of...

Predicting visible differences in high dynamic range images: model and its calibration

New imaging and rendering systems commonly use physically accurate lighting information in the form of highdynamic range (HDR) images and video. HDR images contain actual colorimetric or physical values, which can span 14 orders of magnitude, instead of 8-bit renderings, found in standard images. The additional precision and quality retained in HDR visual data is necessary to display images on ...
